A chitin armor was a type of assault armor composed of insect shell.

Chitin armors were made from the exoskeleton of large insect creatures.[5] They offered a high degree of protection against kinetic damage but lesser protection from energy-based weapons like blasters.[1] The complete armor set included helmet, chest plate, left & right biceps, left & right bracers, gloves, leggings and boots. It was available in several different colors. Chitin armors were rather unique as their quality could vary greatly, depending on the skill of the craftsman and the type of insect carcass used.[5]
History
During the Galactic Civil War, chitin armors were used by Blackguard minions.[11] After the Battle of Yavin, the armorsmith Dakk created an unique acklay armor on Naboo from the remnants of Borvo's acklay.[2] Chitin armors were the primary armors worn by Aurilia sentinels.[5]
Behind the scenes
The chitin armor was one of many types of armor wearable by players in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[5] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[12]
