- «In return, we're giving them free rein to work with the Boadil on their new Rentor defense platform.»
- ―Mitth family Syndic Prime Mitth'urf'ianico, on the Irizi
A type of defense platform was utilized by the Chiss Ascendancy nation.[1] In 19 BBY,[3] several defense platforms orbited the Ascendancy's capital planet, Csilla, when it was attacked by three warships of the Paataatus Hiveborn nation. The platforms destroyed the attackers' missiles while the Chiss Defense Force starships orbiting Csilla obliterated the Paataatus vessels, ending the attack in fifteen minutes.[1] In 18 BBY,[4] the Ascendancy's Boadil and Irizi ruling families worked on a new defense platform at the Chiss world of Rentor.[2]
Behind the scenes
The Chiss defense platforms were mentioned in the novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising, the first installment of Timothy Zahn's Star Wars: The Ascendancy Trilogy[1] published on September 1, 2020.[5] An excerpt of the novel published on StarWars.com on July 8 of that year included the first mention of the defense platforms.[6]
