Chewflies were a type of fly on the Fruited Moon of the Outer Rim planet Hetzal Prime. They flew in seasonal swarms on the moon that destroyed the crops planted there, plaguing the Hetzalians residing there. At some point by the time of the High Republic Era, the flies were genetically modified, resulting in their extinction.[1]
In 232 BBY,[2] the Hetzal system's Minister Zeffren Ecka worked to save his home from the effects of the incoming objects savaging locations in his system during the Great Hyperspace Disaster. Ecka compared the incoming threats as similar to the seasonal chewfly swarms that used to plague the Fruited Moon prior to the flies' extinction, thinking in frustration that nothing could be done other than rebuild after the damage was done.[1]

Chewflies were mentioned in Light of the Jedi, a 2021 novel written by Charles Soule as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase I.[3]
