The father of Chates was a male individual.[2] He[3] worked as a farmer and at some point traveled to Coronet City on the planet Corellia with his son. When the pair visited a bank in the city, Chates' father was killed by muggers. After his father's death, Chates quickly fell in with the White Worms criminal gang led by Lady Proxima.[2]
