Century flowers were a rare vegetal species from a planet on the far side of the galaxy from Thustra. Specimens were nurtured by King Alaric in his garden on Thustra for a century. Those flowers were sensitive and delicate, and he carefully protected them from weeds. Alaric used his gardening as a metaphor to explain to Yoda why he believed Thustra should secede from the Republic during the Clone Wars.[1]
Behind the scenes
The centennial flower of King Alaric appeared in the 2004 comic Jedi: Yoda, the fifth and final issue in the Star Wars: Jedi series of comics, written by Jeremy Barlow and illustrated by HOON.[1] In HOON's former gallery of concept art, that flower was referred to as a "Sephiorchid," hinting that it may be a kind of orchid.[2]
