Carnelian dragons were a type of carnivorous reptilian dragon[1] native to the planet Carnelion IV. They had four legs, eight blue eyes, red and green skin and an aggressive behavior towards other organisms.[2] In 29 BBY,[3] during a mission to investigate a distress signal on Carnelion IV, Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi and Grecker, a resident of the planet, encountered three Carnelian dragons in the Celadon Sea—an icy mountain range filled with poisonous mist that was toxic to humans. Kenobi drew his lightsaber, and, under distress, Grecker fired a flare, only for it to catch the attention of the dragons further. A bystander, Sera, noticed their distress and tried to help. While helping Grecker into a safe building, he threatened Sera at gunpoint to close the door and leave Kenobi for dead, but Sera shot him instead, ultimately saving the Jedi. Sera then exclaimed to Kenobi that[2] she[4] saved him from the beasts.[2]

Behind the scenes

Carnelian dragons first appeared, albeit unidentified, in the fourth issue of the 2016 comic miniseries Star Wars: Obi-Wan and Anakin. The issue was written by Charles Soule, illustrated by Marco Checchetto, and published by Marvel Comics[2] on April 20, 2016.[5] The dragons were later named in an article published on StarWars.com on September 29 of the same year.[1]
