- "Reports show there is a doctor inside the quarantine zone that is providing an anti-virus. Several sources have confirmed the doctor is in a hold out camp just inside the quarantine zone."
- ―Guri, to a spacer
Camp Alpha was one of five refugee camps established within the Quarantine Zone on Dathomir following an outbreak of the Blackwing virus during the Galactic Civil War.
History
- "You must know Han Solo. He was the one that dropped us here to help out. I guess he is waiting for us to give him a call in case things get a little too bad here."
- ―Trig Longo, to a spacer
In 1 ABY,[1] an accident happened in an Imperial Research and Prison Facility on the planet Dathomir where the Galactic Empire was secretly conducting dangerous scientific research to engineer the dreadful Blackwing virus into a bioweapon. The virus escaped containment and turned most of the people ins the area flesh-craving undead creatures. The Empire promptly established a Quarantine Zone to contain the infection.[3] The few people who survived the virus outbreak, mostly Imperial staff and prisoners, were trapped in the Quarantine Zone. They established five camps inside the area, Camp Alpha, Camp Beta, Camp Gamma, Camp Delta and Camp Epsilon, in order to try to live in safety while waiting for an evacuation,[2] albeit all rescue teams were attacked upon landing in the area and their members were killed before they could find the survivors.[3] The camps were named by the TIE pilot Jeb Maris who had managed to deliver radios from Camp Alpha to the other camp and had established communication between them.[5]

Camp Alpha was made of a few tents surrounded by a protective wall consisting of concrete slabs, large disabled devices and other waste materials. It was defended by a ragtag group of survivors made of Imperial troopers, ex-prisoners and soldiers of the Rebel Alliance,[2] and led by Sergeant Mika Horn. Indeed, the camp came under regular attack from the zombies and the refugees had to struggle for their survival.[6] Other survivors included the Jeb Maris[5] and the Bothan Oona Wran.[7]
Soon after the outbreak, Doctor Zahara Cody and Trig Longo, two survivors of the previous Blackwing epidemic in the Star Destroyer Vector, were dropped in Camp Alpha from the Millennium Falcon by Han Solo and Chewbacca.[4] Cody and Longo proposed to distribute to all the survivors of the Quarantine Zone an anti-virus developed by Dr. Cody from her own immunity during the Vector incident. Several spacers later visited Camp Alpha during their journey in the Quarantine Zone.[8]
Behind the scenes
Camp Alpha was a non-player character in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[2] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[9] Camp Alpha was added to the game with the "Game Update 14," a.k.a. the "Death Troopers" update, released on October 12, 2009.[10]

Notes and references
- ↑ 1.0 1.1 The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
