Cadmium was a type of metal.[1] At some point between 0 ABY and 4 ABY,[2] Umak Leth, Chief Engineer to Emperor Palpatine of the Galactic Empire, perfected a design concept of a molecular furnace. The design incorporated intrinsic force negators that would separate matter into its constituent elements, after which those materials would be stored in force bubbles of metals such as cadmium. Palpatine was pleased with the presentation of the concept and ordered Leth to begin work on a weapons platform to be built around the molecular furnace—a project that would ultimately evolve into the World Devastator superweapons.[1]
Behind the scenes
Cadmium was mentioned in the Dark Empire Sourcebook, Michael Allen Horne's 1993 sourcebook published by West End Games for use with Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[1] In the real world, cadmium is a soft metal and chemical element with a melting point of 321 degrees Celsius.[3]
