The Cacops were a sentient species native to the celestial body Veccacopia[1] in the Outer Rim Territories' Tunka sector.[2] They had eyes with retinae, and the visual appearance of individual Cacops tended to be difficult to distinguish for members of other species.[1]

Veccacopia was discovered by the wider galactic community[1] at some point before 44 BBY[3] and was designated a protectorate of the Galactic Republic. Over time, Veccacopia's judicial office grew corrupt, with convicted Cacops hiring Cacop stand-ins to serve their sentences instead.[1]

Not long after Veccacopia's discovery, the Human Finis Valorum served as a judge there. When Valorum learned of the Cacops' deception and the inability of his bailiffs to distinguish between the guilty individuals and the doubles, he broke the corruption ring of the local judicial office by instituting a mandatory retinal scan.[1]

Behind the scenes

The Cacops were introduced in the 2002 reference book The New Essential Guide to Characters by Daniel Wallace.[1]

  3. The New Essential Guide to Characters states that Veccacopia had been discovered at some point prior to Finis Valorum becoming a senator. Since The New Essential Chronology establishes Valorum was a senator by 44 BBY, it can be deduced that the celestial body had been discovered by that date.
