The CWW8 Battle Droid, also known as the CWW8 Combat Droid, was a model of battle droid produced during the Clone Wars[2] and the Galactic Civil War.[1] The CWW8 was a modified version of the standard CLL-8 binary load lifter with its lifts replaced by heavy blaster cannons. It was also equipped with armor designed to deflect blaster bolts.[3] After the Battle of Yavin, the assassin droid HK-47 reactivated the production of CWW8 droid in the Neimoidian droid factory on Mustafar as part of his plan to create a droid army.[1]

Variants of the CWW8 Battle Droid included the CWW Class Eradicator,[2] the AK-1A "Hammer", the AK-3 "Reaper",[1] and the AK-Prime.[4]

Behind the scenes

The CWW8 Battle Droid appeared in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[2] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[5] The CWW8 Battle Droid was added to the game with the release of the expansion pack Trials of Obi-Wan on November 1, 2005.[2]
