The C2-R4 Multipurpose Unit was a droid series created and manufactured by a colony of Squibs. The Squibs, collecting space debris for the Squib Merchandising Consortium, came to the conclusion that the material they have been scavenging could be repurposed and built into fully functional droids. With usual Squib enthusiasm, they went to work building the droids without defining its specific function. They were excited to be able to haggle about the price of the units with potential customers and ended up building droids that had a host of devices and technology bolted on to.[1]
The main body of the C2-R4 was a scavenged R-series shell mounted on two tank-style treads. Welded onto the unit was a collection of household appliances linked together by power cells and electrical leads. The programming matrices were whatever the Squibs could get their hands on, leading to mixture of functions and ability. C2-R4 units were capable of catalytic fuel conversion, enzymatic breakdown, chemical diagnostic programming , and bacterial composting. However, they were also capable of preparing food by reprocessing trash along with their attached blender, toaster oven, and bang-corn air popper.[1]
With no clear design philosophy, the C2-R4 series was a colossal flop. Even Gamorreans did not want a droid capable of creating meals from garbage. While a disappointment to their Squib creators, they still enjoyed the propose of haggling with their bill collectors and the remainder houses. One unit, C2-R4, ended up on the planet Tatooine and came into the possession of Wuher, the bartender at Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina. C2-R4 was pressed into service as a distillery, using his combination of equipment to allow Wuher to make a cocktail using Greedo's corpse.[1]
