Brolis was a Clone Commander who served in the Grand Army of the Republic after the start of the Clone Wars, and was one of the few survivors in the disastrous Battle of Axion.
Biography
Created on the planet Kamino,[1] Brolis was a Clone Commander[4] who served the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars. During his service, Brolis participated in a battle against the Confederacy of Independent Systems. During the battle, Commander Brolis managed to lead his forces into penetrating the Fortress of Axion, but they were eventually overwhelmed by Separatist forces. Brolis and his last two squads fled into the city where they took refuge in one of the ruined buildings. Brolis requested reinforcements, but as the group waited they were eventually whittled down by battle droid forces until only Brolis remained. Commander Brolis continued to hold out in the building, knowing the droids wanted him alive so they could learn how they were able to infiltrate the Fortress of Axion. Tired, Brolis took an uneasy nap which he awoke from when his proximity alarm buzzed, alerting him of the approaching battle droids.[3]
Commander Brolis took aim at the first battle droid he spotted but was startled after being told to put the weapon away by an unknown voice. Turning around, Brolis took sight of a diminutive, green creature who told Brolis that he was the requested reinforcements. As the short individual ignited his lightsaber, Commander Brolis realized that he was Jedi Master Yoda. Brolis watched as Yoda defeated the droids by deflecting their blaster bolts without ever moving from his spot. Shortly after, a hailfire droid arrived and shot a missile directly at Yoda. Master Yoda leaped out of the way of the missile, causing it to explode harmlessly behind him, to which the droid shot three more missiles at him. After Yoda avoided the salvo of missiles, Brolis heard calibration clicks coming from the hailfire droid. Brolis relayed to Yoda that it was a tracking lock just before the droid shot another missile. Spinning in the air, Yoda was able to confuse the missile's tracking, causing it to miss. Brolis continued to watch as the droid charged forward and sent a barrage of missiles that were evaded by Master Yoda.[3]
Behind the scenes
Brolis appeared in "Duel," a short story written by Timothy Zahn for the Star Wars: Short Story Collection, released in August 2003.[3] Released October 25, 2005,[5] The New Essential Chronology establishes that Brolis is an outside military advisor hired by the Kaminoans to train the clones into fighting shape.[4] Both The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia released on December 9, 2008,[6] and The Essential Reader's Companion released on October 2, 2012[7] contradict this by establishing that Brolis is a Clone Commander. Since these two most recent sources identify Brolis as a clone commander, this article assumes that to be Brolis' relation to the Galactic Republic.[2][8] This assumption aligns with the short story's title image, which depicts Yoda with a clone trooper.[3]
