Blaster sights were a type of weapon attachment that could only be applied to ranged energy weaponry. The attachment worked by "painting" its target with energy on a half trigger pull. The energy trickled out of the weapon's barrel and allowed the sight's user to know where they were aiming. Most models illuminated beams visible to the human visual spectrum, but some used wavelengths that were invisible to the naked eye, requiring special goggles to see. Built-in Blaster Sights were commonly used by the Alliance to Restore the Republic's special forces. Common models included the Neuro-Saav "Deadeye" Sight and the Tana Ire y-30Z Targeting Beam.[1]
Behind the scenes
Blaster sights were first mentioned in the new Star Wars canon in Forged in Battle,[1] a 2016 sourcebook for the Star Wars: Age of Rebellion roleplaying game published by Fantasy Flight Games.[2] The weapon attachment originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity as blaster sights, which were first mentioned in Cracken's Rebel Field Guide, a supplement for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game published by West End Games in June 1991.[3]
