Blast plates, also known as blast shields, were protective plates that absorbed the back-blast from a starfighter's ion engines. They were used extensively on the hangar deck of the corvette FarStar. Some of the plates were positioned to protect the entrance to the turbolifts.[1] Diamond boron missiles were equipped with blast plates constructed of diamond and boron. During flight, these blast plates extended outward and protected the missile from incoming laser cannon fire.[2]
