- "Biological section does medical research for the Navy and Army."
- ―A compilation of Galactic Empire documents by Major Arhul Hextrophon
Biological, also known as Biological section[1] and the Naval Biological group,[2] was a division of the Support Service Branch of the Galactic Empire's Navy. In the Navy Order of Battle, Biological represented a section of a support fleet, with its symbol being a circle with two smaller black circles aligned inside it on a line in the upper left–lower right direction.[1]
Biological performed medical services and research for the Imperial Navy and Army and was also directly responsible for the health of stormtroopers[1] of the Stormtrooper Corps.[3] Biological tried to assess the danger posed to Imperial troops and crews by the variety of galactic micro-organisms, prevent the transmission of diseases, and cure or remedy their symptoms. In addition, the division experimented with new wound treatment and rehabilitation methods. Shortly after the Battle of Yavin, Biological was mentioned in a compilation of Imperial documents made by Rebel Alliance historian Major Arhul Hextrophon for Alliance Supreme Commander Mon Mothma and other Rebel officers.[1]
Behind the scenes
Biological was first mentioned in Greg Gorden's 1989 Imperial Sourcebook that was published by West End Games for use with Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. In the book, Biological's Order of Battle symbol was drawn by Sharon Wyckoff.[4] The StarWars.com Databank entry on stormtroopers, which was published by August 8, 2001, introduced the alternate name "Naval Biological group" for the division.[2]
