- "We had the full complement, until we were nearly swamped when your damn station fell on the planet and Bettyjill decided she didn't like the sea trade no more. Now we're shorthanded, and I wonder whose fault that is."
"Not mine, I promise you. I'm here to help." - ―Okoro and Bell Zettifar
Bettyjill was an Eirami fisher hailing from the planet Eiram. During the High Republic Era, she worked alongside her fellow Eirami Nelly and Gorge as part of the crew of the Queen Xiri fishing boat under its captain, Okoro. When the Starlight Beacon space station crashed in Eiram's oceans[1] in 230 BBY,[2] its impact damaged the world's coastal city of Barraza and nearly swamped the Queen Xiri.[1]
Following the incident, Bettyjill opted to depart the sea trade, leaving her crew understaffed and resentful—like most Eirami—toward the Jedi Order for their role in bringing the station to their world. One month afterward, Jedi Padawan Bell Zettifar met with Okoro and offered to join his crew after learning about how their former crew member departed. Though the captain was skeptical of Zettifar, he allowed the Jedi to join them on their next cruise due to being shorthanded.[1]
Behind the scenes
Bettyjill was mentioned in a flashback in the short story "All Jedi Walk Their Own Path," written by Charles Soule and published in the 2023 young-adult anthology The High Republic: Tales of Light and Life as a part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project.[1]
