- "From first to last, his instincts were those of a Knight, not a general."
- ―Lord Berethon, on Lord Hoth
Berethon was a male Human Jedi Lord serving the Jedi Order and the Galactic Republic during the New Sith Wars, as well as King of Corellia, who held the title Lord Peregrine. He operated a feudal kingdom of Corellian Jedi within the war-torn regions of the Republic and stood as a bulwark against the forces of the Sith Empire.
Biography
Early life
A male Human Force-sensitive, Berethon was trained in the ways of the Force by the Jedi Order during the Republic Dark Age. He obtained the title of Jedi Lord after assuming control of his homeworld Corellia with the intent of protecting it from invasion by the Sith Empire. When Lord Hoth, the Jedi Temple's battlemaster, rallied the banners of the Jedi Grand Council, Lord Berethon gathered his forces and joined the Army of Light in its fight against the Brotherhood of Darkness.[1]
Seventh Battle of Ruusan
Leading his forces against the armies of the Brotherhood, Lord Berethon accompanied Hoth and the other Lords to the planet Ruusan to participate in the final campaign against Dark Lord Skere Kaan and the Brotherhood. Surviving all seven major battles, Berethon and Lord Valenthyne Farfalla were the only two Lords present to survive the cataclysmic effects of the Sith-activated thought bomb. In the aftermath of the battle, Lord Berethon was captured and taken as a prisoner by a surviving female Sith soldier, who was unaware of his identity, simply referring to him as "Jai". He assured her that Lord Berethon would take them under his protection, and the two engaged in a conversation about the nature of the Force and different perspectives on it, such as those of Master Thon and the Miraluka. After she finally inquired as to his name, he revealed his identity, to her mild exasperation, and allowed him to use his comlink to reach the fleet in orbit.[1]
After the war
At some point, Like many other Lords, Berethon was ostracized by his Jedi brothers and sisters on Coruscant and retired with his warriors to his holdfast on Corellia where they would remain weary of Coruscant control for several generations.[2] At some point, Berethon wrote his memoirs, entitled “I, Corellian: Ruusan and Reformation”, in which he described his encounter in the aftermath of Ruusan.[1]
Behind the scenes
- "I also took the opportunity to explore an idea I feel is slightly underused: when Jedi knighthood becomes hereditary, an ancestral lightsaber might end up in the hands of someone who isn't very good at using the Force."
- ―Paul Urquhart
Berethon was first mentioned in the 2012 reference book The Essential Guide to Warfare by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart.[2] During the writing of the book, Urquhart also featured Berethon as a point-of-view character in a narrative segment titled "Nightfall on Ruusan," but it was cut from the final book. The segment was eventually published on StarWars.com as part of The Essential Guide to Warfare Author's Cut.[1]
