The Bavakar cardio package was a cybernetic brain implant used during the Jedi Civil War between the Galactic Republic and Sith Empire. The implant was manufactured by Bavakar Medical Research Labs, considered the leading cybernetics laboratory at the time. The device, which cost two thousand credits, was a powerful type of cardio package that improved the cardiovascular fitness of an organic user far beyond what could be achieved through normal means[1] by encouraging the brain to send certain stimulating chemicals to several organs, including the heart. The complexity of implants meant that users needed special training and could only use one at a time.[2]
A Bavakar cardio package was used by Shasa, a female Selkath who lived on the[1] Inner Rim planet Manaan[2] in 3956 BBY.[3] She was brainwashed and trained in the dark side at the waterworld's Sith Embassy. Former Sith Lord Revan, retrained as a Jedi Padawan, raided the embassy[1] and freed Shasa from Sith influence.[4]
Behind the scenes
The Bavakar cardio package first appears as an equipment item in the 2003 video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, developed by BioWare. The player can only obtain the implant by killing Shasa during the "Missing Selkath" quest.[1] However, the seventh web enhancement for the Knights of the Old Republic Campaign Guide establishes that Shasa was rescued by Revan and survived,[4] establishing that Revan took the light side option during the quest.[1]
