A battle over Coruscant took place around 21 BBY during the Clone Wars, between The Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The Republic forces were led by a Jedi Knight and Admiral Wullf Yularen.
The Battle

One Venator-class Star Destroyer was left alone protecting the planet Coruscant when the Separatists attacked, launching several Vulture Droids, Droid tri-fighters and Hyena-class bombers to destroy the lone Republic vessel, which did little damage to the cruiser. Later, a Munificent-class star frigate arrived and attacked, but the Confederacy failed once again.
Finally, a fleet of Recusant-class light destroyers arrived in orbit, and although they were repelled too, the Republic vessel was dealt some damage. Later, a Lucrehulk-class Droid Control Ship arrived and launched many Droid tri-fighters, causing more considerable damage to the Republic ship. However, the Droid Control Ship was destroyed in the process, leaving the Republic victorious.
Aftermath
The Confederate forces were defeated and repelled from Coruscant, even though the Venator-class Star Destroyer was left somewhat damaged. The Confederacy suffered a major defeat.
However in 19 BBY the Separatists attacked the capital again, capturing the Supreme Chancellor Palpatine.
This time, the Republic Fleet had many vessels in orbit and were able to rescue the Supreme Chancellor, while the Confederate Fleet retreated.
