Bars Barka was a planet^[3] located in the Bars Barka system, a part of the Barsa sector^[1] in the New Territories portion of^[2] the Mid Rim.^[1] It was linked via hyperlane to the Varvva system.^[4]

Several decades prior to the Clone Wars, Bars Barka had been settled by members of the Ubese species,^[3] which was native to the Uba system world Uba IV.^[6] Around that time, a Neimoidian trade delegation visited Bars Barka. Afterward, the deadly disease known as the Intestinal Revenge of Bars Barka swept the planet, causing crippling weight loss among its population.^[3] That fact was later noted by the author Ebenn Q3 Baobab in the 6 ABY edition of his book the Galactic Phrase Book & Travel Guide, by which time^[5] it was believed that the outbreak had been caused by microbes normally found in the Neimoidian body.^[3] Between 12 ABY and 13 ABY, Bars Barka fell within the borders of the New Republic.^[4]

Behind the scenes

Bars Barka was introduced via a mention of the Intestinal Revenge of Bars Barka in the 2001 book Galactic Phrase Book & Travel Guide, authored by Ben Burtt.^[5] It was first established to have been a planet by 2008's The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia.^[3] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Bars Barka system, and therefore the planet itself, in grid square J-6.^[2]
