Biography
Bodonawieedo and Barquin D'an performing "Jedi Rocks"
Barquin D'an was a Bith male musician[1] and gambler[4] native to[1] the Outer Rim world[5] Clak'dor VII[1] who was the[6] estranged[1] older brother of Figrin D'an, another Bith musician. Barquin taught his brother the rudimentary elements of music, and even though his music never caught on, he had minor successes opening for Red Shift Limit, Starburst, and Annadale Fayde in the Parmel, Portmoak, and Quence sectors. He grew bitter over Figrin, the leader of the band Modal Nodes, gaining success.[6]
At some point, Barquin saved up his credits[1] and traveled to the planet Tatooine seeking to get his brothers help in recording a new[6] demo,[2] hoping that Figrin's skill would get him to the top of the intergalactic music scene. Unfortunately for Barquin, the Modal Nodes could not make the recording session[6] as they had left Tatooine for a three-month tour. Impoverished and stranded,[2] the musician spent his remaining money getting passage to the spaceport city Mos Eisley.[6]
The atmosphere wasn't his taste at all and instead of earning money for performing with the Max Rebo Band, he was enslaved by the Hutt crimelord. Without any possibility to escape, he tried to find a way to kill himself. His opportunity came, when Jabba left his palace with the Khetanna to feed Luke Skywalker and his companions to the Great Pit of Carkoon. Barquin waited for an opportunity to jump into the sarlacc's maw, but when the skirmish broke out, he escaped into the Dune Sea. He headed towards Mos Eisley and hid on a cargo barge to Stenos. There, he built up an import/export business and became quite successful with it.[2]
Skills and abilities
D'an's songwriting skills were considered excellent, though his singing and playing were considered unsophisticated.[6] Musically, he was less skilled than his brother,[2] who was superior at playing the Kloo horn compared to him.[4]
Equipment
The Bith musician used a Kloo horn and recording equipment in his music.[6]
Behind the scenes
Barquin was added to the extended musical number in the Special Edition of Return of the Jedi. He is portrayed by an uncredited Don Bies.[7]
