Bala-balas were small speeders used on Akiva, a planet in the Outer Rim Territories. They were used by both citizens of the world and the Imperials stationed. They helped navigate the narrow streets and channels of the Myrra, the capital city of Akiva.[1]
Behind the scenes
Bala-bala speeders appeared in 2015 novel Aftermath , written by Chuck Wendig as the first installment in Star Wars: The Aftermath Trilogy.[1] Bala-balas were pictured in the 2024 video game, Star Wars Outlaws, developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft. The speeder is not ride-able in the game but is frequently driven by non-playable characters.[2] The game's Art Director, Marthe Jonkers, created concept art for the bala-bala speeders.[3]

Marthe Jonkers on ArtStation: Star Wars Outlaws // Akiva Explorations (September 30, 2024): "Here are some early explorations of Akiva! We had some ideas of what you could find in the jungle, ranging from strange otherworldly plants to ancient orbital ruins. I also worked on some sketches for the bala bala speeder, the way to get around in the streets of Myrra, Akiva's main city!" (backup link)
