In 21 BBY,[2] following the Second Battle of Geonosis during the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and Confederacy of Independent Systems, raiders launched a series of attacks[3] against hyperspace[4] shipping lanes within[3] and near the Outer Rim Territories.[4] In response, Jedi General Eeth Koth led his fleet to track down the perpetrators.[1] However, while traveling through the Saleucami system[5] in the Outer Rim,[6] the fleet was caught in a surprise attack launched by Separatist General Grievous,[1] who boarded Koth's flagship, the Venator-class Star Destroyer Steadfast, with a force of battle droids and captured him.[7]

Behind the scenes

The attacks on hyperspace routes were mentioned in "The Clone Wars Begin," a 2021 issue of De Agostini's Star Wars Encyclopedia line of reference magazines.[1]

  2. 2.0 2.1 Star Wars: Timelines dates the events of "Grievous Intrigue" to 21 BBY. "The Clone Wars Begin" establishes that the attacks on hyperspace routes near the Outer Rim Territories occurred before the events of "Grievous Intrigue," but after the Second Battle of Geonosis, which Star Wars: Galactic Atlas dates to 21 BBY. Therefore, the attacks must occur in 21 BBY as well.
