In 3 ABY,[4] the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader and Imperial[3] Lieutenant Commander[5] Sabé launched an attack on the science colony on the planet Gabredor III[3] in order to save a group of refugees,[6] including Vader's childhood friends Kitster Banai and Wald, from Governor[3] Tauntaza[5] who was working with the Crimson Dawn criminal syndicate.[3]

After they discovered that the governor was not aboard her flagship but instead in the science colony, Vader had his shuttle prepared and they made their way to the governor's location. When they arrived, the governor was attempting to extract a piece of technology she had developed with the help of conscripted refugees from the planet that drained the power from living things. To buy her more time, the governor had word sent to Crimson Dawn, and she had B1-series battle droids deployed to attack Vader, though he was able to make his way to the governor where she fired her new technology at Vader, which stunned the Sith Lord. At the same time, Crimson Dawn warriors arrived and evaucated the governor, whilst the Sith assassin Ochi and helped defeat the governor's remaining forces, including a B2-series super battle droid.[3]

After the governor's escape, Vader Force choked Ochi for what he saw as allowing the governor to escape, though Ochi claimed he had arrived to save Vader. Sabé and Vader then made their way to Doctor Aira, one of the individuals who had been conscripted to help the governor, who revealed what the governor had developed and showed them what it was capable. After seeing what the governor was capable of, Vader took Ochi's speeder bike and began to track the governor.[3]
