The assault on Exegol,[5] otherwise known as the razing of Exegol, was carried out[4] in 3 ABY,[3] by the Schism Imperial when they attempted to challenge Emperor Palpatine's power by attacking the Sith Citadel on Exegol where he kept his greatest treasures and secrets. The attack was the Schism and Vader's boldest challenge to Palpatine's rule.[4]

The assault on Exegol was first mentioned in the solicit for Darth Vader (2020) 46 as a tease for what was to come in the issue.[4] The capitalization was confirmed in the solicit for Darth Vader (2020) 47.[5]
