An assault laser cannon was an extremely powerful, yet short-ranged, type of laser cannon sometimes installed on starships.[1]

Characteristics

Assault laser cannons had extremely high damage output, rivaling that of a turbolaser, but were hampered by a severe lack of range.[1] Because of this, assault laser cannons were only useful at short to moderate distances, and had no long range ability as they became progressively inaccurate past short-range.[1] Due to their power, they were sometimes installed on assault ships and bounty hunter craft.[1]

History

The Wookiee bounty hunter Granakk's YT-1300 light freighter, Reckoning, had a single assault laser cannon installed on it.[2] During the time of the New Republic, Erron Kell's Deathraven was equipped with four assault laser cannons.[1] The Krakana's Claw was equipped with twin fire-linked assault laser cannons.[1] Additionally, the bounty hunter ship Mist Hunter was equipped with two assault laser cannons.[3]
