An artificial sun was a device that mimicked the effect of a sun. The devices could operate standalone[1] or as part of an artificial weather system meant to support plant life.[2] By 228 BBY,[4] the the garden in the Room of a Thousand Fountains within the Jedi Temple on the planet Coruscant had an artificial weather system that provided artificial sunlight.[2] That year,[4] Jedi Master Elzar Mann visited the garden, noticing when a piece of ore resting on a pedestal glinted in the room's artificial sunlight.[2]
One such device was also installed in the underground cavern of the Mitth family's homestead on the Chiss Ascendancy capital planet Csilla. The artificial sun rose and set like Csilla's sun.[1] By around 18 BBY,[5] the Moten estate on the world Dallow used artificial sun technology in the form of high-resolution ceiling tiles mimicking the same position as the Dallow system's actual sun.[3]

An artificial sun first appeared in the 2020 novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising, the first installment of Timothy Zahn's Star Wars: The Ascendancy Trilogy.[1]
