The artifact chamber was a room in the archive of the Jedi temple on the planet Batuu. It contained a collection of artifacts from the Outer Rim Territories, including a crystalized skull of an ancient Batuu sea bear and a small compass.[1]
In 382 BBY,[2] on her second day in the archive, Jedi Padawan Rooper Nitani studied the many artifacts in the chamber and their unique shapes while practicing mentally organizing them into classes. Eventually, she heard her name whispered despite being there alone. Because of this, Nitani reached out into the Force and discovered that while everything in the chamber was connected to the Force, the compass particularly called to her. After finding it tucked behind the bear skull and picking it up, Nitani felt calm. She explained this experience to Jedi Master Merak, the archivist of the temple, who allowed her to keep the compass so that she could keep following the will of the Force.[1]
Behind the scenes
The artifact chamber appeared in the junior novel The High Republic: Quest for Planet X by Tessa Gratton, which released in 2023[1] as part of the second phase of the multimedia initiative Star Wars: The High Republic.[3] The artifact chamber appeared in an online preview prior to the book's release.[4]
