Armored vrblthers were a variety of vrblther found on Varl. Like other vrblthers, they were bipeds but would drop to all fours in order to run albeit with a loping gait. Unlike the common vrblther, they had rocklike plates with serrated edges covering their hide and deadly tail spikes. They could climb vertical surfaces with ease.[1]

Armored vrlbthers would eat anything they get their claws on, but seemed to prefer the meat of the Twi'lek and Nikto trying to survive in the ruins and shipwrecks of the irradiated wastes of Varl. They often overhunted these defenseless populations causing the pack to need to move on to find a new food source. These armored vrblther packs were relatively small, generally consisting of four to eight individuals, and one or two of those were generally juveniles. The pack rarely stays in one place for more than a few weeks, but when they do lair it is generally in a cave, junk heap hollow, or old mine. They always leave tell-tale signs such as blood, bones, or flecks of their own rocky hide near such lairs.[1]

Armored vrblthers usually hunt alone, tracking potential prey with their keen senses, in order to catch enough meat for the entire group. They are fearless predators who will attack groups of humanoids even when outnumbered and will not back down from fires, loud noises, or blaster fire. If one does find itself in trouble, it will alert the others with a keening cry as though they hunt alone they rarely wander too far from the rest of the pack. Armored vrblthers almost never retreat from foes and weakened individuals which may flee are generally consumed by the pack.[1]

Sometimes, radioactive particles become caught between plates of the armored vrblther's hide. The creatures were generally unable to dig such material out. In areas of low radiation, this could cause them to register as moving radiation sources on radiation detection devices. Regardless, an armored vrblther with radioactive material stuck in it's flesh would probably sicken and die before long.[1]
