The Arkanian jellyfish was a type of aquatic jellyfish native to the frozen planet Arkania.[1]
The DZ-70 fugitive tracker droids, used during the rule of the Galactic Empire, had several arms that dangled like the tentacles of an Arkanian jellyfish.[2] In another instance, the Oswaft, a sentient gigantic species from the Centrality, resembled a cross between a Corellian sea ray and an Arkanian jellyfish.[1]
Behind the scenes
The Arkanian jellyfish was first mentioned in the second issue of the Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi — The Freedon Nadd Uprising comic series. A comparison with the Arkanian jellyfish was used in a caption box to describe the debilitated state of the Sith sorcerer Ommin.[3] Furthermore, an Arkanian jellyfish was used as a point of comparison in other literary sources, The Essential Guide to Droids and The Essential Chronology. Despite this, the species was never examined on its own, and in every instance its description was defined through comparisons to other entities.[2][1]
