After the Clone Wars and Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine's proclamation of the New Order, the Galactic Empire annexed the planet Onderon.[1] However, the Onderon rebels led by Saw Gerrera refused to bow to the new Galactic Emperor[3] as the transformation of the Galactic Republic into the Empire was seen as a betrayal of their ideals.[4] After the annexation[1] and his refusal to join the Empire,[3] Gerrera became a popular leader in a rebellion which attempted to repulse the offworlders.[1]
