After Darth is a canceled YouTube comedy series that was produced by the Disney subsdidiary Maker Studios.[1][2] The show was intended to be hosted by comedian Paul Scheer and was developed in the leading up for the release of Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens.[3] It was reportedly produced without proper vetting from Disney executives, and as such did not fit with the company's intended direction for the franchise.[4] The series was first announced in 2013 as "Darth Vader specials" that would be released in spring/summer 2014.[5]
In 2020, while interviewed in Gary Whitta's Animal Talking talk show, Scheer shared some details about the planned show: the show was going to take place aboard the Death Star and he was going to physically play Darth Vader whereas his brother was to co-host an esque-Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes band led to Emperor Palpatine while wearing an "out of universe" Hawaiian shirt. The show would have focused on Vader interviewing different people of the Star Wars galaxy at the Emperor's Throne Room, including Lobot, Wedge Antilles or one of the Naboo Royal Handmaidens. Jedi Master Yaddle was also intended to appear as a sex therapist.[3]
According to Scheer, Disney gave them access to different props and scenarios that they would not normally get, like many Darth Vader costumes, a full recreation of the interior from the Millennium Falcon and even sound effects or video footage from the films. Before development on the series ceased, there were at least eight written episodes. Scheer recalls that one planned segment for the series featured a deleted scene from Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope where while hiding on the cargo hold of the Falcon, everyone farted and pinned the blame on a confused Chewbacca.[3]
