While the technical specifications of the Appearance Designer were a well kept secret, all major galactic medical and safety organizations approved of it.

The Appearance Designer first appeared in Star Wars: The Old Republic update 2.1 as a method of altering the player's appearance. The player's species can be altered, which is most likely just a game mechanic.
