"A Day in the Life" was a short comic in Star Wars Tales 12 and was collected in Star Wars Tales Volume 3 and Star Wars Legends Epic Collection: The New Republic Vol. 2. The story was written by Brett Matthews, colors by Guy Major and letters by Steve Dutro. It takes place three days after the Battle of Endor.
Plot summary
A small patrol of T-65 X-wing starfighters from Rogue Squadron, led by Wedge Antilles encounter the still-deadly remains of the downed flagship Executor. After losing one of their pilots, the surviving pair come to terms with the loss and Antilles writes the letter to the dead pilot's next of kin.
Continuity
The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia includes individual entries for the characters of Kirst and Wister, which serves to endorse the canonicity of this Tales story.
Nevertheless, the story is stated to take place three days after the Battle of Endor, in which Wedge Antilles, in command of Rogue Squadron, and Luke Skywalker are still stationed with the Alliance Fleet in orbit above Endor. This time frame is in direct contradiction with the events taking place in the novel The Truce at Bakura, in which Skywalker, Antilles, and Rogue Squadron depart from Endor two days after the battle there to assist Imperial forces on the planet Bakura. The novel reveals that it would take "days" to travel from Endor to Bakura; thus, it stands that Skywalker, Antilles, and Rogue Squadron are in hyperspace transit three days after the Battle of Endor.
