"A Certain Point of View" is a short story written by Charlene Newcomb (with illustrations by Mike Vilardi and Daniel Horne) that was originally published in Star Wars Adventure Journal 8 by West End Games in November 1995. It was later reprinted in the short-story anthology Tales from the Empire, which was published by Bantam Spectra in November 1997, and was also made available online at Hyperspace on April 28, 2006. It takes place immediately after the Destruction of Alderaan in 0 BBY.

Plot summary

The Kuari Princess was a luxury liner that was operated by Galaxy Tours. This particular trip was the Relgim Run, from Endoraan through Marmoth, Aris and Vykos to Mantooine, passing through the Maelstrom between Aris and Vykos.

Celia Durasha, the young navigation officer aboard the Kuari Princess, is shocked to discover that her fellow crewmember, security officer, Detien Kaileel, is a Rebel agent. Making this revelation especially difficult for her is news that Rebels killed her brother, an Imperial, on Ralltiir. Furthermore, her former boyfriend, Adion Lang, has been assigned by the Imperial Security Bureau (ISB) to arrest Kaileel. Following her conscience, Celia attempts to free Kaileel from shipboard detention, but Lang catches her red-handed, and shoots Kaileel. Celia attacks Lang, stabbing him with a blade, and escapes abord a shuttle into the sensor-shrouding Maelstrom Nebula to start life anew.

Adventure journal editor Peter M. Schweighofer asked Charlene Newcomb to develop a story around an existing piece of artwork, a painting by Daniel Horne that adorned the cover of the roleplaying game adventure Riders of the Maelstrom (1989). It featured a human female playing a holographic chesslike game with a large alien. Celia would return in the short story Crimson Bounty.[2]
