The AF-2 Cypher Key, also known as the AF-2 cypher, was an advanced type of anti-security device that could be used to bypass complex security systems or override alarms. The device was a flat octagon with one pair of lengthened sides that each had a circular marking about a third of the way up their length. A line also ran up the center of the device for about two thirds of its length, terminating in another circle.[1] In 3 ABY,[2] the Rodian merchant Namda Eaakee on the planet Akiva possessed an AF-2 Cypher Key that they were willing to trade for six units of durasteel, four units of polycarbonate, and two helicyclic gears.[1]

In 3 ABY,[2] the thief Kay Vess heard that Eeakee was supposedly selling AF-2 Cypher Keys and sort out the Rodian while the merchant was stranded on the island known as the Cauldron and traded them the desired parts for the device in order to create a slicing kit.[1]

Behind the scenes

The AF-2 Cypher Key appeared in the 2024 Massive Entertainment video game Star Wars Outlaws. The player must obtain the key in order to unlock the optional "Slice Kit" ability.[1]
