4VO-TG, or Teegee, was a[1] non-binary[2] astromech droid. He was repaired by Jedi Padawan Enya Keen in 382 BBY.[1]
Behind the scenes
- "I did sneak in a nonbinary character into Cataclysm. The droid 4VO-TG (who is one of my absolute favorite characters in the book) is named after one of my children, who is nonbinary. I asked my child (who uses they/them pronouns) what they would like Teegee's pronouns to be, and they said "he/him" felt right."
- ―Lydia Kang, about 4VO-TG
4VO-TG appeared in Cataclysm, a novel written by Lydia Kang as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase II and published on April 4, 2023. Prior to its release, a mention of the droid was included in a StarWars.com preview for the novel on March 3 of that year.[3] Kang considered the droid one of her favorite characters in Cataclysm, indicating that he was written to be non-binary. When developing the character, the author asked her child—whom she named the droid after—what they would prefer 4VO-TG's pronouns to be, and they said using "he/him" felt right.[2]
