The 233rd Imperial Fighter Group[3] was an Imperial starfighter wing that fought in the First Battle of Ord Biniir during the Galactic Civil War against the Rebel Alliance[1] by 0 BBY.[2] In the battle, the fighter wing was decimated by[1] a squadron[3] of Rebel Y-wings, with the pilots bragging about their victory. The Empire lost[1] the planet[4] as a result, and they commenced an operation to retake it in response. The effort was successful, and most of the Y-wings were destroyed.[1]

Behind the scenes

The 233rd Imperial Fighter Group was first mentioned in flashbacks in the twenty-fifth issue of the Star Wars: X-Wing Rogue Squadron comic-book series. The issue was written by Michael A. Stackpole and published by Dark Horse Comics[1] on December 3, 1997.[5] 2008's The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia provided the unit's full designation.[3]
