- "General Loorne and the two Jedi Knights he arrived with were ambushed and killed. Apparently no troopers among the Twenty-second staked a claim to the moral high ground."
- ―Salvo, to Climber
The 22nd Air Combat Wing,[1] known simply as the Twenty-second,[2] was a combat wing[1] of clone troopers within the Grand Army of the Republic that fought during the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Ion Team, a clone commando squad, was attached to the 22nd Air Combat Wing.[2]
Towards the end of the war, the 22nd Air Combat Wing operated out of[2] the Mid Rim planet[3] Boz Pity, before moving to the Outer Rim Territories planet Murkhana[2] in 19 BBY.[4] When Order 66 was issued by Supreme Chancellor Palpatine on Murkhana, ordering all clone troopers to execute the Jedi Order, the Twenty-second ambushed and killed Jedi Master Saras Loorne and two Jedi Knights.[2]
Later, Clone Commander Salvo reported the Twenty-second's actions to Clone Captain Climber, the leader of Ion Team, claiming that its members had apparently claimed no moral high ground from killing the Jedi, as a snide remark towards Climber's moral questioning of Order 66.[2]
Behind the scenes
The 22nd Air Combat Wing first appeared as the "Twenty-second" in Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader, a 2005 novel written by James Luceno.[2] The unit was later given its full official name in the 2008 The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia reference book, written by Stephen J. Sansweet and Pablo Hidalgo.[1]
