The 224th Recon Patrol Squad was a reconnaissance unit of the Corellian Security Force active during the Galactic Civil War.[1]
In 1 ABY,[2] one of the unit's soldiers went missing after a wilderness survival exercise on Corellia. A transponder check showed that he was still stuck out in the Corellian wilderness, with a broken leg and many hungry animals gathering. Because the unit was due to be shipped offworld soon, their Imperial Intelligence liaison remained uncaring who would be left behind. But as the 224th had always worked from the principle of leaving no one behind, they went outside the usual channels to rescue their comrade, hiring experienced hunters to dispose of the animals while one member of the 224th did the rescue work.[1]
Behind the scenes
The 224th Recon Patrol Squad was mentioned in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[1] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[3] The 224th Recon Patrol Squad was mentioned in the description of a mission called "Rescue Recon Buddy From Animals" available to players at mission terminals on Corellia.[1]

Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided — Terminal Mission: "Rescue Recon Buddy From Animals" on Corellia
- ↑ The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
