Dave Filoni once made a joke about this, saying that if the jedi were to announce "Chancellor Palpatine is a sith!" to the galaxy, your average citizen would be like "well, okay, but wasn't that conflict like, a thousand years ago? Trains run on time!"

He basically founded the sith order we see in the prequels. If done right, a Darth Bane movie would be incredible
