My mom saw the Original Trilogy as a kid, and years later she showed me the movies when I was a kid. I've been a fan ever since. (my dad wasn't big into Star Wars but he still knew what it was)

She is still the last heir to the throne of Alderaan, regardless of military status.
Doesn't the term "Princess" supersede the rank of General?
If anything, it would be a form of disrespect to call her "General" rather than the higher rank of "Princess".
After all, she is still considered the last Princess of Alderaan.
To me, it makes no sense that everyone would call her "General" in The Force Awakens.
