We've lost a legend. There's simply no other way to put it.
He will be missed.
Rancor are pretty slow so force-enhanced reflexes + lightsaber should make quick work of that.
MagnaGuards however were literally built for fighting Jedi.
Listen here, sequel haters:
I have seen the Star Wars Holiday Special.
That came out after A New Hope.
If Star Wars can survive that eldritch abomination after just getting started, it can survive anything. Any lesser franchise would have been ended by that demon- I mean film.
I take comfort in knowing that Mankind will never make anything worse then that. After watching the Star Wars holiday Special, I find myself unable to truly hate any work of media.
I have watched it and I proclaim it to be:
Okay.
Seriously it's a passable start, and I will never understand the level of sheer vitriolic hatred towards this show. It's not Andor level of quality but it's better than Book of Boba Fett and Kenobi. Some people act like it ate their baby or something.
I only have 2 criticisms:
There were some rather heavy-handed exposition thrown at us that could have been displayed using flashbacks or simply doing it later in a more natural way.
The showrunner has said that this show is supposedly the "gayest star wars ever" and I have not noticed any of that. Maybe there will be more representation in later episodes but so far it's lacking. I'm not gay but I still find it annoying that they mislead viewers like this. Again, maybe the next episodes are different.
Light side for sure.
I don’t want to end up looking like California Raisin over here:
Silly you, that's not a goof. Don't you know astromechs can teleport?
I've decided to make Star Wars spotlight, a series that shines a light on people whose contributions to Star Wars media and culture have been overlooked by the fanbase.
For example, Irvin Kershner despite directing the Empire strikes back which is one of the most beloved star films ever made, rarely gets mentioned at all by fans.(He will be the subject of a future Spotlight don't worry).
So without any futher ado, let's get to the subject of this post:
Ralph McQuarrie (1929-2012)
Ralph McQuarrie was an concept artist reponsible for designing the look and feel of many parts of the the Star wars galaxy such as:
Darth Vader's helmet,
Lightsabers,
The Death Star,
Bespin,
And so many more that they can't even all be listed here. Virtually everything in the original trilogy gets it's look from him.
Furthermore, his concept art was privotal to convincing 20th century fox to take a chance on a film callled Star Wars.
His work also won Anthony Daniels who was at first indignant at the thought of playing a robot.
"I saw a very small rendition of a painting on the wall [of C-3PO] that changed my life. It was Ralph McQuarrie's concept of how C-3PO might look in the film. I fell in love with the painting. It's as simple as that.
I fell in love with the face -- fell in love is an easy, but not quite the right word. I was entranced by the face. He had a forlorn quality. It was as though he was lost. He wanted to come and take my hand. There was something there that clicked."-Anthony Daniels
I'll think let George Lucas have the final word here:
"Beyond the movies, his artwork has inspired at least two generations of younger artists—all of whom learned through Ralph that movies are designed. Like me, they were thrilled by his keen eye and creative imagination, which always brought concepts to their most ideal plateau. In many ways, he was a generous father to a conceptual art revolution that was born of his artwork, and which seized the imaginations of thousands and propelled them into the film industry. In that way, we will all be benefiting from his oeuvre for generations to come. Beyond that, I will always remember him as a kind and patient, and wonderfully talented, friend and collaborator."
Without him, Star Wars would have never existed. He left a legacy that has brought joy to millions and fueled countless children's imaginations with wonder.
Including mine.
Thank you, Ralph. Thanks for everything.
Kylo Ren vs luke is not a duel.
@Dark Lord of the Pith Didn’t Din Djarin have a companion or something. I think it was a baby alien. Baby Rancor, Baby Sarlacc, Baby… wait no, I remember!
Baby Jawa, that’s it.
Weird how he got completely ignored and got no merchandise at all.
@Dark Lord of the Pith take Andor for example.
No one was asking for it. Sure, everyone liked Cassian but he’s not exactly a character fans were clamoring for more of. He was a good character that had his arc that was apparently already complete.
Another thing I find fascinating is the complete lack of marketability. A mature character-based drama is not what audiences expect from Star Wars. No Jedi, episodes consisting mostly of just talking, and a main character that straight up murders someone in cold blood in the very first episode.
There is almost Zero marketability going on here. Every other Star Wars movie/show since the dawn of time has had something that could be used to sell toys. Now I hardly can complain about that, seeing as many memories from my childhood were built around said toys but it is refreshing to see a piece of media that goes so heavily against marketability to kids.
I just can’t comprehend how this show got past the womp rats- I mean studio executives at Disney. Who did they suck up to get this green lighted? Maybe they had a slot to fill or something, who knows.
Anyway, I don’t know how it came to fruition but Andor is straight up the best thing that happened in Star Wars since ESB.
@Bobanator777 They could at least wait until the actual show drops.
I don’t think this is just yet another cash grab, it’s not just an obvious cash grab using a popular character like Boba Fett or Obi-Wan , it’s a original story with new characters.(possibly some cameos but still) The Disney era of Star Wars has done pretty well with new characters. The Mandlorian, Rebels, Rogue One, The Bad Batch, and Andor all had interesting new characters mixed with the occasional return of fan favorite characters.
It’s when they start milking nostalgia for all it’s worth that they usually screw up.
Ars Dangor only becuase he has the silliest costume of any Star Wars character I have ever seen. It's just a usually lazy costume for a fanhcise that has great costume design.
How does Palpatine take him seriously with that stupid hat? I''m sorry but I just couldn't take advice from someone dressed like that.
@SonicTsils That show was never intended for us. It’s just a Star Wars show for toddlers, nothing really to get mad over.
Now that exists we can introduce our kids to Star Wars at an earlier age so I’m glad it exists.
@ImustbeFrank You should remind those people that A New Hope was followed by the holiday special.
If Star wars surivived that, it can survive Anything.
It takes a looong time for the hyperlane to shift enough to be a problem, giving them plenty of time to update their systems to correct for the minute changes.
So as long as you always update your Star charts, you should be fine.
Also there’s technology known as S Tread boosters that basically prevent a hyper lane from moving. However it’s very expensive.
That’s … an odd assortment of choices.
Boss Nass. He may do that weird head shaking thing but he’s not evil..

Boss Nass. He may do that weird head shaking thing but he’s not evil..
Dang, that's sad. (Although I don't think that was intended.)
I just don't like that the story takes place and ends before her story even really began, you know?
Give me an actual adventure starring Rierin and I very well could change my mind on her.
Fair point.
Although, even though he's at the top, his enemies would just target the trooper. Easy enough to arrange a "accident".
The story does make a lot more sense if you view as a loveless affair.
I agree with your second point. Introducing gay characters only to kill them is a waste of everyone's time. If you're going to represent them, COMMIT TO IT!
Also, he already was completely committed to the destruction of the rebels so it's not like the death of the Trooper really made that much difference.
How did you feel about "Rierin"?
