I was watching the Star Wars Holiday Special and then reading the script and saw that one character plugged in a grooming device into a laser outlet. Ignoring it possibly being mumbo-jumbo; in 1978 transferring electrical power from laser beams was pure science fiction but recently scientists have achieved this in 2019. It’s not mainstream but we did it.

Can anyone help me find more examples. I’m a Otts kid so I’m hoping some Gen X fans can help me think of stuff that they read about in an EU source and now realize we have it today in 2025

This question came from a podcast about Scavengers Reign that I just watched. The podcaster remarked how “alien” Vesta felt to him and made it almost seem more “real”. I very much agree with this feeling and he even made a reference to Tatooine from Star Wars and critiqued the single biome trend that a lot of Star Wars planets have. He feels that is actually more unrealistic and I have to agree

The planet can be as obscure as it comes; from either Legends or Canon.

I’ve recently became interested in sci-fi architecture and wonder if there are some cities in Legends or Canon that were built in an interesting or unique way.

Ecumenopolises like Coruscant and Hosnian Prime don’t count

For people who read Star Wars novels from the 90's and early 2000's, was there ever a futuristic technology that you remember thinking was cool that you read about that all of sudden now exists in 2024? I'm talking obscure things. Not things like lightsabers or holograms.

What’s your favorite piece of Star Wars basic tech? Not like something ridiculously advanced like a Death Star or lightsaber but something you found on Wookieepedia that you wish you had in your house.

I know hyperdrives emit Cronau radiation but do they also emit cosmic rays? I ask because recently it was announced that scientists detected high energy cosmic rays with a ton of power. They are calling it the Amarestu particle (after the Japanese sun god) and it’s origin is a mystery. Some people joked that it’s given off from the engine of a warp drive; and it’s far-fetch’d but who knows?! Is there any mention in Legends or Canon of a hyperdrive doing this, or is that not how hyperdrives work?

I remember reading this awesome Legends article here on Wookieepedia about a Imperial who wanted to catalog all of the galaxy’s DNA. He presented the project to Vader himself and Vader actually loved the idea and got behind it. What was his name? I can’t find it.

I know the Mos Eisley Cantina didn’t allow droids but that really much of a zone; so much as an establishment. I was thinking more of public parks or even whole city regions.

Have we ever seen droids that weld things underwater? A friend of mine does wet hyperbaric welding and it got me wondering. I cannot find any examples on the wiki ~~~~

Hi. I have 4 Star Wars questions.

1. The Complete Unofficial Star Wars Encyclopedia lists Mirth gas as being in its volumes but I can find no trace of it. Yet the Gamblers World comic strip from 1977 mentions a Mirth gas grenade (on Wookieepedia) but no details other than its existence. Does anybody know what I’m talking about? Is Mirth gas like laughing gas?

2. Does Star Wars have its own version of Penetrating oil like WD-40?

3. Is there an equivalent of a Prediction market in the Star Wars galaxy?

4. Lastly does any Star Wars source mention ways to avoid sinkholes from forming?

In Empire Strikes Back, the Empire sends out thousands of probes to find the Rebel base. The galaxy is very much habituated but there are tons of remote planets that the Rebels could establish a base on it (except of course Yavin 4). Roughly how many Viper probe droids do you think the Empire sent out. They don’t have to worry about money or resources and the galaxy is 120,000 light years across (slightly larger than ours) and home to 400 billion stars

Getting super-pumped for Avatar 2. I love the design of the Na’vi aliens. They are 10 ft tall which seems larger than any alien I’ve seen in Star Wars but I was wondering if there is a species in Legends lore that resembles them?
