10 years ago, the Star Wars EU was declared non-canon. Some good folks in the Legends community got together to talk about what the EU means to them, all these years later. Over 70 people had something to say! Check it out! 😁

I miss it a lot. I actually did a long stream with some EU fans for the anniversary, and we also worked on a video where 70ish people submitted essays about their experience being an EU fan:

@Joupena I would love that as well but unfortunately(or fortunately lol), there are way too many pages to fit into a single book, especially Jedi Apprentice. Jedi Apprentice works best as 4 Volumes, Jedi Quest as 2(just one volume is almost 700 pages!).

One could also argue that Cassian Andor is in the Legends continuity, as his Alias ‘Aach’ is used by a Rebel Agent who also has ties to uncovering the Death Star plans:
Through a 2017 update, the Rathtar species that were first introduced in The Force Awakens made their way into Legends via The Old Republic MMO. This is a rare example of a thing from Canon entering Legends, instead of the other way around.
How many other examples of this are there? And is it fair to assume that, since these are parallel continuities, there would probably be Canon things in Legends that we just wouldn’t know about? What Canon thing should/would fit into Legends?
I decided to custom bind the Dark Forces trilogy into 1 book, and made the cover based off of The Essential Legends Collection to add some more cohesiveness to my bookshelf. Pretty excited to see how it turns out, I consider Kyle Katarn’s story pretty essential anyways!
I’m so glad I got this series in omnibus format, and in such good condition! These are from 1996, so I’m scared to even touch these almost 30 year old books for fear of tarnishing them 😬 Greatly recommend this series for anyone interested in YA Star Wars books!
^ Part of why people talk so much about that era is because it's the oldest and the most saturated with long-form storytelling in Legends, without a doubt. And as far as people having a hate-boner, I mean, some people are for sure way too toxic with their frustrations but, I think it's valid to be sad that a universe of storytelling you were invested in was abandoned. Particularly if you find that the new continuity just has very different ideas of how to reboot that continuity than what you grew to love, and I think think that is a huge part of where all the division comes from with people who don't like what's been released.
And yeah I mean the Prequel stuff is all subjective for sure, as is the case with the Sequels or even the OT. The huge and diverse story-telling that has taken place within the context of Star Wars is why you have so many people with so many different opinions about what it should be, and is also why I think Star Wars is possibly the IP where the concept of head-canon is the most important. Pick what you like most, it's all made-up anyways, focus on what makes you happy :).
@Ctmeh You think that the post RotJ Legends books are overrated? That’s a very interesting perspective IMO, as some of my favorite characters come front that era like Jaina, Jacen, and Anakin Solo. I’d say underrated for sure, considering those stories are from a dropped continuity that many fans choose to ignore now as a result, on top of being in a less casual medium.
As you said you are a self-admitted screen SW person, I’d be curious to hear how many of those books you’ve read or how much of the story you followed from the post-RotJ era in Legends cuz personally I’m in love with them.
Also same goes for the Prequels. Personally I think they are definitely not overrated. I just think that people that didn’t like them are maybe less receptive to them being more commonly praised nowadays. So I’d say they aren’t really underrated anymore, I’ll give you that.

@Ctmeh I always thought that George Lucas was perfectly valid in making that change in Ep 6. I think after watching all 6 movies and seeing Anakin redeemed, it hits a lot stronger to see the Anakin we saw in the prequels back and smiling again, as opposed to a version of him we never knew. I know for me it does at least. Plus, I’ve known several kids who saw the version without Hayden and didn’t know who it was.
I think the people in my life really understand what I’m about…

@Ajjviolin96 I lurk from time-to-time and just saw your comment. I feel like there's an implication that I didn't put genuine work into these. I would spend days on Procreate and Photoshop outside of Artbreeder to try and make these look as good as possible. Part of why I stopped was burnout. If it was as simple as typing in a prompt on an AI website that wouldn't be the case. I've never been disingenuous about what programs I use to make these happen. You can put "beautiful art" in quotes for whatever reason, but I had a lot of fun putting effort into bringing my favorite characters and others into a medium that rarely gets depicted.
