This date is significant. No, it's not the birthdate of any major Star Wars actor. It isn't when a film came out, or even a book. This is the date when George Lucas began drafting preparations for a small indie film called Star Wars. This was 50 years ago.
50 years ago, executives thought this film would do okay. It was given a budget of 8,250,000 to be filmed, and included a variety of practical effects. Nobody thought it would turn out to be a billion-dollar multimedia franchise. Filming on the project wouldn't start until 1976, a little over a year before the film was to premiere in theaters.
Star Wars has impacted millions of lives all across the globe. It has been there for us when we needed it. What does Star Wars mean to you? We have one man to thank, for starting it all, 50 years ago.
