This date is significant. No, it's not the birthdate of any major Star Wars actor. It isn't when a film came out, or even a book. This is the date when George Lucas began drafting preparations for a small indie film called Star Wars. This was 50 years ago.
50 years ago, executives thought this film would do okay. It was given a budget of 8,250,000 to be filmed, and included a variety of practical effects. Nobody thought it would turn out to be a billion-dollar multimedia franchise. Filming on the project wouldn't start until 1976, a little over a year before the film was to premiere in theaters.
