I know it would have been selfish leaving the Order to their fate because he's the Chosen One but he had a responsibility to his family as well. I think he would have been a greater help to the Order and the Galaxy if he had left due to the fact that he was already powerful and experienced enough to continue his training and reach his full potential, like Obi Wan did on Tatooine, and also while training his children Luke and Leia in the force as well. Then he would have been more than strong enough to take down Palpatine and with the help of Luke and Leia at his side I don't think Palpatine would have stood much of a chance against all three of them.
