Along with news of JEJ, this one hits hard for me as well. Passing yesterday at age 52, he was a native of my hometown and a close friend of my next door neighbor. Wanted for him to have a mention on this site.
So awesome to see Undying as a mod nominee! The world keeps spinning, doesn’t it?
I don’t meet the requirements to have a vote, but rest assured you have my endorsement. Congrats in advance 🫡
Wow @Jedi Sarith LeKit ! I had no idea you did a Discussions Index on the wiki. I just took a look and that thing must’ve been a heck of a task. It was something that was high on the wishlist back in the day. Nice work, my friend!
I’m gonna say yes simply because of an out of universe reason: KOTOR was written at the same time as Legacy, which closely followed the end of the Prequels. In that era it was all about who was related to whom. It’s a common theme in SW of course, but it really seemed amped up in the mid 2000s. So yes, while it’s only vaguely implied in the stories, I’d guess that the intent was for Zayne to be a Skywalker ancestor.
Oof. Big oof.
Well, I kinda liked the Talky droid.
While I can’t complain too much about any one thing in particular, this series fell completely flat for me. I chide myself for being the fanboy who didn’t get what they expected, but man there could’ve been a lot more overt connectivity to existing material.
Out of the four ongoing series in this era of SW comic storytelling, the main run was easily the least enthralling for me. I consistently found myself 2-3 months behind and ended up reading them just to stay up with other stories.
It hardly felt like a main run at all, actually. More like filler, tbh. The crossover events were the best parts. Soule says he considers the crossover issues from the other books as part of his run, so there’s that I guess.
Let’s see…sprinkle some positivity here. I think the best memories I’ll take from the series are:
The Talky, probably the most clever detail of the run
Crix Madine being the only sensible officer in the whole Rebellion
Lando and Holdo doing the horizontal bop
Yep. That’s about it. Maybe more but I can’t remember right now, which says everything.
Biggest fanboy letdown: only vague references to Greenie. Yeah, yeah, I get it but damn that would have been cool to see Luke actually use it for the first time. Now we’re stuck with either a deleted scene or an Easy-Bake Lightsaber Oven from Legends.
To address a gripe from the OP as well as one of the replies however, (and to completely contradict myself here) I never expected nor wanted to see Tanaab in this run. That to me is a reference that only Han and Lando get. For all we know, it’s an inside joke. Maybe Tanaab was a lover that Lando had to try his best “maneuver” on before winning the “battle”. (Hehe…watch that scene in ROTJ now and try not to think about that. You’re welcome.) To the point of it being something we don’t and shouldn’t get, I admit I still think that about the Clone Wars so what do I know?
Anyway. I digress. My response here is poorly crafted and as zig-zaggy as the pacing of the series. Better stop before I embarrass myself further. Really just felt that I owed it to Mina to reply 😉
Greetings to you as well, Ctmeh.

@Jcp12345 cardiac arrest is the latest that I was told.

What, no Rey? Brutal.
Thank you, Lieutenant Zogg.
Round 200, huh?
Not that I’ve been keeping up, obviously, but is this the most recent MMC?
Congrats on the tenure, Jou!
Can’t believe that all happened five+ years ago. Wild times. An experience that I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life. Keep up the great work!
What strikes me here is that this a fairly large deviation from standard Star Wars storytelling, making a movie based on (let’s call it) EU material. SW has never been in the business of taking smaller media to the big screen in this way. Sure there are elements that make the crossover but not so much in the way of main storylines. Obviously the leap isn’t too surprising given that they have basically told us for a few years that this was the direction they were heading in, but it still marks a milepost in how we get new material from this franchise.
After all these years I finally subjected myself to the entirety of the SWHS for the first time this past weekend. Awful. Truly Awful. I didn’t know it could actually be that bad. There’s exquisitely bad, and then there’s this. Just bad.
I think this review really sums up my feelings about the details, but I wanted share my takeaway on the bigger perspective: this is how the general population saw SW originally. As a silly and fantastical novelty.
My understanding is that the show veered quite far away from what George Lucas originally intended, and that the majority of creative decisions were made by people who weren’t even associated with Luacsfilm. This tells me that, to put it one way, people weren’t ready to take SW seriously yet. The movie was a huge success, yes, but not in the way that we understand it today. It wasn’t seen as one of the greatest stories ever told, it was seen as a futuristic take on stories that have been told over and over. Which, to be fair, is exactly what SW was.
Good post. Glad it was featured and included in MMC this week. Shout out to @Jedi Sarith LeKit
Yes. It is a pejorative term. This is interchangeable with the word ‘slur’.
Simply defined, a pejorative is a phrase that insinuates a low opinion of and disrespect for something, often a person or group of people.
Is it a racist term? That’s debatable and depends primarily on whether you consider battle droids a race. I would argue that they are not a race but instead are objects, therefore racism doesn’t apply. I realize there is a counterpoint to this.
However, within the context of SW, and more specifically the Clone Wars, the idea is that it mimics the language of soldiers from past wars for generations. There are countless examples of ‘nicknames’ that soldiers give their enemies and more often than not they are pejorative and racist. Many come to mind but I can’t think of a single one that would be appropriate for me to type here.
The interesting thing is that SW gets away with this because of a philosophical boundary: droids aren’t real. Therefore it’s up to the viewer to decide whether the use of the word ‘clanka’ is the big bad wrong or whether it can be dismissed as casually funny. It all comes down to personal philosophy.

Glup shitto? Man I remember when we used to just call them background characters, give them extensive storylines, and feel artificially superior to those who knew nothing about them.

Wish I could remember just which novel had a this great little blurb about how a certain planet was considered backwater because it “still had separate nations”. I love that notion.
