For some reason (bad set design) the TIE Fighter is impossible to recreate using clay and straws.
So I'll be back with better equipment.

The Battle of Yavin (apart from making a joke of Y-wings) demostrated how inadequate the Rebel's training and tactics were. While I understand that it was an attack that they needed to do, it was done incredibly poorly. For one, why did the Rebels feel the need to fly down a trench, which, despite some claims, did NOT shield the fighters from turbolaser fire, when they could have come in at a higher angle, which should have given them a better shot? Why didn't Green Flight or Red Flight use proton torpedoes to knock out the turbolaser batteries or draw away the TIEs before the Y-wings arrived?
As reference, 1 squadron of 12 TIEs (assuming that in Star Wars a squadron is 12 ships, since Red Flight never had a ship numbered higher than Red 12) destroyed almost three squadrons of Rebels (36 ships total, 3 survivors, or a 91.7% loss rate).

Post #7 What are your favorite stills (screenshots) from Star Wars (A New Hope)?
Archive with posts for all movies here
This purpose of these posts is simple - Let’s talk about what we love about Star Wars movies. Simply post your favorite movie stills (any screen shot, behind the scenes pic, production photo, concept art, or any related photo) for this movie and talk about what you love about it. If you can’t post a pic, just write something.
Here is mine:
When it comes to the Original Trilogy, I have to go with my first impressions as a kid (rather than my adult perceptions). This classic still is one of my earliest favorites of the franchise. I still remember the feeling of seeing the X-wings open their foils and feeling that sense of “awesomeness”. I also love the visual of the small unassuming X-wings approaching the massive monstrosity of the Death Star.
