I think that Darth Vader (Anakin) should have left the jedi order with Padme. Everything would have been better.

Darth Vader is in my top ten villains of all time, and would probably make it into a top ten characters of all time list as well if I ever get around to making one.

The only change I would make (other than erasing his humiliating depiction in Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi) would be to have him survive his death. Not in a “somehow, Darth Vader returned” way, but actually have him make it off the Death Star II alive with Luke. Seeing him come to terms with and atone for his actions in service to the Emperor and the Empire and find a new place for himself as a changed man in a changed galaxy could produce some of the best stories Star Wars never told.

If he just had let Mace deal with Palpatine he could have lived a very long and happy life with his family. But he didn't and he lost everything (just like the Jedi and countless other innocents).

So yes, he could have done better. Much better.
